Medicare Supplement Plans
Medicare supplement plans are also sometimes called Medigap plans. They are the same thing. Most senior citizens will automatically qualify for Part A Medicare. If you paid Medicare taxes while you were working, part A will be free for you. If not, you can still purchase Part A and pay your premiums if you are over age 65, meet citizenship requirements and are eligible to buy part B. Medicare supplement plans can sometimes be purchased if you are under age 65 and are disabled. Usually, people who are eligible for Part A will also be eligible for part B. In some cases, you may be required to pay a premium to receive Part B. Medicare supplement plans with Part B cover medically necessary things, such as services by doctors, outpatient services and care, home health care and certain preventative care and appointments. Some people automatically get part B and are not required to purchase it. Medicare supplement plans with part C coverage are called Medicare Advantage Plans.
This includes HMOs and PPOs. Many of these plans also offer additional coverage for things such as vision coverage, hearing coverage, health and wellness programs and some include part D coverage as well. Medicare supplement plans that have part D coverage are insurance plans that cover prescription drugs. They are sometimes also referred to as PDPs. Part D cannot be purchased alone, it must be purchased along with other insurance coverage plans. If you do not purchase part D when you first enroll in Medicare, you may have to pay a penalty to enroll in part D later on. Medicare supplement plans can be made simple by contacting a company that can give you quotes for the coverage you want and need from a number of different private insurance companies.
This will simplify the process for you and allow you to get the best coverage available at the best possible price for you. Medicare supplement plans can sometimes be changed or you may be able to switch insurance providers at any time. Be sure to check the regulations when you apply for your supplement coverage. You can usually get quotes for these plans for free. This will allow you to compare the coverage you will receive and the prices different insurance companies offer in your state. Medicare supplement plans are often based on your income. In these cases, you will need to pay additional premiums in order to receive the coverage. Check with your insurance provider to get an accurate quote for your Medicare situation.
